I wonder if Unruh even listens to himself anymore. He makes it sound like people who don't have access to health care are simply too lazy to get it. Yeah, Allen, that's how that works. When people get kicked off their insurance because they're "too costly" for the insurer, and they end up declaring bankruptcy because the bills become too much, it's clearly because they're just too dumb/lazy. I wonder if they feel particularly "free."
When my grandmother has to choose between getting groceries or her blood pressure medication because she's 86 years old and on a fixed income, it's clearly because she's lazy. I wonder if she feels particularly "free" on those days.
This isn't an ideological "us vs. them" debate, this is about real. people.
I've heard a good bit of garbage come out of Allen Unruh's mouth in the last several years, but this might be one of the more insulting speeches he's ever given.
Add to the title: generalizations, mixed metaphors, and an utter lack of new information to bring to the table, and you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. (Doh, now I'm doing it.) And for fun, try this: everytime Unruh smiles seedily at the camera over his own supposed cleverness, take a shot. By the time the 8 mins is over, you may very well think his speech was profound.
I love how this argument always boils down to linking progressive ideas to a slippery slope into communism... Universal health care = socialism = Marx was a bum = the Russians win. As soon as someone can convince me that our stagnant health care system is somehow best for the 'common good', I might actually be willing to listen to this tripe.
I can only hope the tools that actually buy into this BS come to realize Unruh isn't the 'patriot' he claims to be, but just another spotlight-craving media whore. Maybe that's wishful thinking...
